A MODERN PIECE
With its home in the historic Spring Arcade Building in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles’ Historic Core, Clayton’s Public House is a creative collage of a forgotten time, a light-hearted, fun, tongue-in-cheek, artistic rendering of what entertained the Victorians of the 1880s while also paying homage to the Turn of The Century through the 1920s.
Offering 32 craft beers on tap featuring many local breweries, rare international beers, signature by-gone-era cocktails and elevated gastropub cuisine, Clayton’s has something for everyone, much like the time period it celebrates.
Clayton’s Public House welcomes Executive Chef James Wakefield who brings his British sensibilities by way of classics re-envisioned through the lens of modern California cuisine, with a nod to the turn of the century food. Chef James hails from the South coast of England, where he was trained in classical French cuisine, and upon moving to the States, lived and worked in New York City at 3 Michelin Star Daniel under the world-famous Daniel Boulud before relocating to Los Angeles. In James’ words- “For me the most exciting part is after having spent the last 8-odd years in fine dining, to return to simpler food that I grew up with is refreshing. To be able to apply what I’ve learned in an environment with this much space for creativity is completely gratifying.”
Owners Elizabeth Peterson-Gower and Tony Gower are thrilled to have Chef James on board who will further enhance Clayton’s already amazing food, sustainable dining initiatives and bring innovative food trends to the table, which includes the unveiling of a new Sunday Brunch starting in June featuring Roast Beef and Chicken dishes along with other new menu items such as Crab Louie Salad and Crab Linguini satisfying all those seafood paramours looking for a lighter fare during the upcoming Summer months. Also, the inspired Deviled Eggs are a perfect appetizer/hors d’oeuvre while sipping a resplendent cocktail from our bar.
Clayton’s Public House offers over 32 craft beers on tap, sourcing many from LA and California breweries, plus the best of international brews. The brews will be paired with a Chef inspired menu that rotates seasonally, serving locally sourced, fresh cuisine and gastropub favorites such as Fish and Chips, Chicken Bites and celebrated Mac and Cheese. Small and medium-sized plates, catering to casual dining crowds and encouraging health-conscious and communal eating.
Clayton’s Public house is a comfortable gathering place for the community, with an atmosphere designed for the “everyday” man and woman. It’s impressive turn of the century Victorian themed bar and its warm low-lit ambiance and inviting atmosphere, Clayton’s Public House can be enjoyed in a variety of seating in either swiveled padded bar stools or tables and booths for longer more intimate affairs.
